Basic Guidelines

Acceptable File Formats:
Vector - Adobe Illustrator (.ai, .pdf, .eps).
Raster - Adobe Photoshop (.psd, .tiff, .jpg.)

  • All images must be embedded and all fonts must be outlined.
  • We require a minimum resolution of 300 dpi at 100% file size on all Raster Based designed and submitted files such as TIFF, PSD, JPEG. (these files should be created at 300 dpi and not up sampled from a lower resolution)
  • Vector based files, resolution is irrelevant and files can be reduced or enlarged to almost any size without
    loosing quality.

Designing your artwork Return to Top back to top

When designing your artwork you should take a few things into consideration to achieve the best printing results as possible.

What are you designing for?

  1. Preparing your artwork for printing on clothing using spot colors:
    • You should prepare it in Adobe Illustrator or any other vector based program.
  1. Preparing your artwork for printing on clothing using full color process printing:
    • You should prepare the artwork using Adobe Photoshop and the artwork should be created at 300 dpi. The artwork should be sized to how you want it to look on the shirt.
  1. Preparing artwork for Banners and other Signage:
    • When creating creating artwork for signs it is best to use vector format (Adobe Illustrator), but Adobe Photoshop can be used as long as the artwork is created at 300 dpi and it must be created to the size that your signage will be printed at.

The difference between raster & vector art Return to Top back to top

Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. They are resolution independent. Therefore, they can be scaled to any size without loss of quality. Text should be converted to outlines, paths or curves, when sending vector files to another location.

Raster graphics are made up of squares of color called pixels. These files will lose definition if they are enlarged. That is why we ask for Photoshop files at 300 dpi (dots per inch) to be prepared at 100% of printable size.

Below are some examples of Raster and Vector images.

Raster vs. Vector examples

If the artwork you want to use is not 200 dpi of it's print size then it will have to be recreated. One of our art specialist will have to recreate your artwork to vector based art, free of charge, if you are ordering 7 shirts or more. We offer this service to ensure that your design prints at the highest possible quality.

Screen Printing vs. Digital Garment Printing Return to Top back to top

Screen Printing is a process of printing ink through a stencil that is burned in a screen. Each color that is in your artwork will have it's own screen and is printed onto product in layers.

Digital Garment Printing is a new high end technology which prints directly onto a shirt from a printer similar to the one you would use to print onto paper but in a much larger scale. This method currently will only print onto 100% cotton materials.

Applying vehicle graphics to a window Return to Top back to top

Preparing for Installation

The window must be thoroughly cleaned before the rear window graphic is applied. Clean the glass using soapy water, and then thoroughly rinse the window. Be sure that the window is completely free from any remaining soap residue.

DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICAL BASED WINDOW CLEANERS AS THIS MAY REACT NEGATIVELY WITH THE ADHESIVE.

Applying the Vinyl

The first step to successful applications is before removing backing material, unroll the graphic and select the position on the window that is desired. You can tack down the vinyl in the center of the window with masking tape, to temporarily hold the graphic in the desired position.

Once desired placement is selected, position 1 person on either side of the window and carefully begin removing the backing material starting from the top and working your way to the bottom. You should use a squeegee and wrap a rag around the squeegee to prevent scratching the graphic. Now, start a squeegee action in the middle of the image and squeegee from one side to the other, continuing the process from the top of the decal down using overlapping strokes and removing the liner as you go. Be careful not to press to hard as you will damage the material. WARNING: DO NOT STRETCH THE MATERIAL. THIS WILL CAUSE THE PRODUCT TO CURL AND LIFT FROM THE WINDOW AFTER IT IS INSTALLED.

If air bubbles form during this process, gently lift the material and reapply while smoothing the bubble area.
Once graphic is completely flat against the window and all wrinkles and air bubbles are removed, start from the center of the glass and gently rub the entire area with a squeegee or soft, clean, lint-free towel to secure the adhesive to the glass.

Carefully trim with the razor blade the excess material around the perimeter of the window trim. WARNING: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN TRIMMING TO AVOID INJURY AND TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. Discard excess material.

WARNING
Do NOT use an ice scrapper on the rear window or risk of damage to the film may occur. This product was to be applied to the OUTSIDE of the rear window only. This product requires trimming with a sharp razor blade.

Use extreme caution when using any sharp objects as they can cause severe injury. Take extreme care not to damage any surrounding area of the vehicle when trimming the excess. Excessive heat and/or cold temperature exposure will reduce the life of the adhesive. Glass can be easily scratched. Use extreme caution when using the razor blade on the glass surface. This product is to be applied on the rear window ONLY. This product is not to be applied to any other window of the vehicle as it may significantly obstruct visibility and create a significant safety hazard. Do NOT operate windshield wipers on glass with the window graphics installed. This could damage both the window graphic as well as the wiper. Installing this product may reduce or impair visibility.

WARNING
State and Local laws may prohibit the use of window film being installed on your vehicle. Please check your local and state regulations to verify that the use of this product is approved. This product is to be applied to the OUTSIDE of the rear window ONLY. This product is not to be applied to any other window of the vehicle as it may obstruct visibility and create a safety hazard. This product requires trimming with a sharp razor blade. Use extreme caution when using any sharp objects as they can cause severe injury. Take extreme care not to damage any surrounding area of the vehicle when trimming the excess. Install this product only in strict accordance with the provided instructions. Installing this product may reduce or impair visibility.

Removing vehicle graphics from your window Return to Top back to top
Removal Instructions:
The product can be easily removed by starting at one corner and pealing the film/vinyl from the window. Manufacturers recommend a heat method which employs a heat gun, lamp or propane torch. Begin by heating one corner of the marking, using caution to prevent the material or window from getting too hot, which could cause the glass to shatter. Then you can use a razor blade or knife under the corner to loosen the marking, being cautious not to damage the glass. Next, grasp the lifted edge up and pull it up and away from the glass with a slow even rate at an angle less than 90 degrees. Always keep even pressure and heat the area of film immediately ahead of the area being removed.

Things to consider when designing a shirt Return to Top back to top

Some of the most important things to consider when designing your artwork for your upcoming clothing order are listed here to help you save money on your next order.

  • How many colors are going to be in your design - This is a important factor to consider as it will effect your price greatly. Screen Printing is priced on how many colors are in a design and how many locations will be printed. If you are going to be ordering large quantities then you shouldn't see a huge impact.

  • What program will you be using to prepare your artwork - We highly recommend you using Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw to design your graphics, this will give you the best outcome when your shirts get printed. If you are using Adobe Photoshop then you should set your resolution to 300 dpi and have your art board/canvas size set to the size you would like your print to be.

What is the lowest cost shirt to print on? Return to Top back to top

White shirts are always going to be your lowest cost option. You can get a very affordable shirt if it is a white shirt with a one color imprint on it. The brand/style of shirt is always a factor as well, a Gildan Heavyweight Tee or Ultra Cotton tee would be a popular low budget tee to consider.

Is your shirt design full color? Return to Top back to top
If your shirt design is full color then you are going to want to order large quantities to save money. Full color screen printing is achieved by 4 color process printing and the minimum is 144 pieces. Please contact us at 1-800-251-9592 for more information on how to go about getting the most affordable price for your full color shirt designs.

Ways to save money when ordering stickers Return to Top back to top

One of the top ways to save money when ordering stickers is to order them by the roll. Don't worry you can still have your stickers cut into different shapes if you want to save money and have them printed this way. We would print your stickers on to about 3' - 4' sheets of vinyl and send them to you in rolls.
